Mandarin Essential Oils as an Alternative Method of Controlling the Fungus Alternaria alternata (Fr.: Fr.) Keissler

Alternaria brown spot (ABS) is a disease caused by the fungus A. alternata f. sp. citri, which results in lesions on fruits, leaves, and branches of several mandarin varieties their hybrids. Due to high cost fungicide application, alternative methods for controlling ABS need be studied. Therefore, this study aimed evaluate use essential oils (EOs) from different mitigate effects ABS. The inhibitory effect concentrations (1, 2, 4, 8, 16 μL·mL−1) EOs Fremont IAC 543 mandarin, 2019Maria Murcott 221 tangor, Late 855 willowleaf vitro mycelial growth was evaluated. Additionally, curative preventive these symptoms detached leaves tangor were also assessed. EO 2019 Maria induced less growth, consequently, greater inhibition at concentration μL·mL−1. This more effective control than other tested. In leaf experiment, both treatments μL·mL−1 showed lower values severity.
